Full statement
As a postman, administrator, commercial-archaeologist, project manager, and now in IT. I've worked alongside charities and communities. I've seen the struggles people face. As a family person with children, we share concerns about worsening conditions. And we too feel the inequality led cost-of-living crisis.
As one of three Rother District Green Party councillors, we know how local government does its best in hard-times. Where we've helped balanced budgets whilst safeguarding people and nature. But only by having more Greens to replace the Conservative led County Council, can we offer real hope and make real change.
Let's have a Bexhill and East Sussex for the people and push back against austerity. Let's improve our future with practical, honest ideas just like we did post-war. Let's have similar renewal now.
NEW EAST SUSSEX UNITARY COUNCIL FORMATION
A new unitary that works for Bexhill and East Sussex's communities is needed. A unitary based on community, wellbeing, arts, culture and nature that represents the best of Bexhill, and the county we live in - East Sussex. A unitary that is not created with austerity in mind but aims to grow and cater for residents needs and aspirations.
EAST SUSSEX COUNTY COUNCIL
Hope for our young & working-age adults.
Skilled jobs, education, activities & engagement from clubs to new businesses. And protecting nature & wildlife- creating a safer Bexhill & Sussex for their future.
Review contracts for the benefit of people not profits.
Whether care, schools, NHS, highways and public transport - those in need should have help. Prioritise worse roads. Look at in-house solutions as contracts end.
Hold an emergency summit to address Tory-led austerity.
Stand against the economic policies of major parties that led to local government decline. Show there is another way. End inequality and the cost-of-living crisis!
Specific ESCC Issues
Highway Safety, Greening & layouts
There are examples where roads and streets haven’t been updated or changed in years. Since the 2022 Highway Code for example, where pedestrians and cyclist have right-of-way. Also where streets and roads have not been visually updated or enhanced through greening and more updated street design. There are opportunities to tackle speeding traffic to make roads child-friendly. To also look at HGVs passing through some roads that are not suited for large vehicles. It shouldn’t be that an accident needs to happen for changes. Let’s review this for Bexhill and all East Sussex areas. So whether by car, bike, or as a pedestrian we have better safer travel.Schools
There a few issues affecting local schools. SEND provision is a worry. While the government has a review it may not be adequate, with concerns from staff and schools. As per our news story (from June 2025), many children are not getting the special education needs and support they need. We Greens believe the most vulnerable need to be protected. Moreover all our children need a safe thriving environment that enables them to enjoy learning.Local NHS Provision & Care
Local NHS services and GP services (especially) are under pressure. Super-surgeries are planned so as to offer more appointments and cater for treatments and check-ups that could be done locally. However, if they aren’t accessible then local surgeries in walking or easy transport reach must stay. I would prefer some town-centre provision. So too when thinking of our elderly citizens or those in care their care needs should be met. I believe wellbeing and community is one aspect of this, but the social care aspect needs a review to help support those in need.Environment
There have been many pollution incidents recently. The Southern Water sewage incidents in Bexhill. The bio-beads spillage that affected Rye and Camber. The container spills that caused large sections of our beaches, including Bexhill, to be covered in debris. This stems from treating our coastal areas and waters as not living spaces for wildlife and us. I will be working with others to change perceptions, to make areas wildlife protected. Wildlife and residents shouldn’t have to suffer due to disregard to nature and our environment.
