Statement to voters
Hello, I am writing to introduce myself, Jo Taylor, as Labour’s candidate for Whaley Bridge in the County Council elections on Thursday 1 May.
Full statement
I have lived here for almost 20 years. Two years ago I had the privilege
of being elected as the Borough Councillor for Whaley Bridge and became
the council's first Member Carers Champion. This means a lot to me as I have
been my partner’s carer for seven years. I also serve as Chair of the Council’s Housing Board.
I have always worked in the public sector - in homelessness and advice services.
I love helping residents here with casework, supporting community groups, volunteering at local events, representing residents, and of course reporting potholes!
Tory run Derbyshire County Council has completely failed.
We have the worst roads in country and the council is nearly bankrupt - despite slashing services for our most vulnerable residents, closing day centres and care homes. And it has failed our children, running the SEND service into the ground.
I stood alongside residents, Labour colleagues and our MP to oppose damaging cuts—fighting for local services and helping save Whitestones and Eccles Fold for the people who rely on them.
If elected as your County Councillor, I will continue to hold regular advice surgeries, listen to residents, and stand up for our community. I promise to put you first.
Yours sincerely,
Jo Taylor - Labour candidate for Whaley Bridge
