Statement to voters
I'm proud to be from and for our region.
Full statement
It's home.
I grew up in Begbrook, have family across the West Country, and have support from people in every part of our area.
Together, our region can work with the Labour government to accelerate economic growth and deliver real change.
We can start a new chapter for the West of England:
A reliable and consistent bus network - with one ticket, one timetable
I will work with passengers to deliver a bus network that people can rely on, making sure buses turn up when they should and bringing more routes to our rural areas. I will increase public control of buses with one ticket and one timetable for all bus companies in the West of England.
More railway stations - including Portishead and Filton North with plans for Saltford, St Annes, Ashton Gate and Charfield
I will open new railway stations in Portishead and Filton North and expand our local rail network with plans for new stations in Saltford, St Annes, Ashton Gate and Charfield. I will use the mayoral powers to integrate our bus and rail network to deliver reliable and joined-up services.
The right homes in the right places, backed by an essential services first approach
I will tackle the region’s housing crisis by building new homes with a services-first approach, making sure they have the transport links, schools and GP surgeries they need. In older homes, I will expand retrofitting to make homes fit for the future and to cut bills.
More investment into our region to make the West of England the home of new green jobs
I will use my business experience to bring investment into the West of England and make this the place to ‘do business’ for AI, manufacturing and industries of the future. I will create a Regional Green Skills Academy providing adults and young people with both the skills and pathway to well-paid jobs in the future.
Working with the Labour Government to deliver the funding our region deserves
As a Labour Mayor, I will work with the Labour Government to get the funding and powers our region needs so we can deliver better transport, new homes and more jobs. I will work every day to put the West of England on the map and bring in new investment.
