Statement to voters

Donald Walmsley has lived in Bexhill North for twelve years.

Full statement

Before teaching, he spent years in logistics management - running a multi-million pound budget and delivering £8 million in savings over five years.
After 30 years in secondary schools, Donald watched council tax rise and services decline.
In 2024 he co-founded the Bexhill and Battle branch of Reform UK because Bexhill deserves better.
His pledge is personal: to give Bexhill North a real voice, and make transparent, common- sense decisions on behalf of residents.

On Election, Donald is ready to use his wealth of experience to bring the financial discipline and local accountability that Bexhill North deserves.

Our plan to fix East Sussex:

Fix council finances
East Sussex County Council plans to borrow £70 million just to cover day-to-day costs - not to improve services - adding around £3 million a year in interest, with total debt at £211 million despite maximum council tax rises.
Residents who budget and live within their means deserve a council that does the same - properly managed finances and balancing the books.

Cut waste - Spend what remains wisely:
Millions are spent on consultants, administration and management layers that do not deliver front-line services; Reform will review all discretionary spending within the first 90 days and redirect funds to roads, care and useable services.

Fix our roads for good:
East Sussex pays out £ hundreds of thousands in pothole compensation each year because temporary fixes and done instead of proper repairs - costing more in the long term and leaving Bexhill North's roads in ever worsening condition.
We will review the highways contract and its repair specifications, push for more durable, county-wide repairs, and consider all contract options to deliver better roads and better value.

Prioritise what Bexhill North actually needs:
New housing must include the roads, drainage and infrastructure to support it - without it, developers profit while residents face congestion, pressure on schools, longer waits for GP appointments and busier roads.
East Sussex county council is a statutory consultee for major planning applications. As your County Councillor, Donald Walmsley will oppose any developments lacking proper infrastructure and ensure Bexhill North's concerns are fully represented.

Why Party Matters:
Independents cannot shape policy, set budgets or influence decisions at scale - they lack the structure to deliver change across the council.
Real change requires a coordinated team with a clear plan, able to influence policy, challenge decisions and deliver results for Bexhill's residents.

Democracy restored:
Last year, your current county councillors voted to cancel the elections, denying Bexhill North's residents a voice. Reform UK challenged this in the high court and restored your vote.
The same councillors, responsible for the council's financial crisis tried to avoid accountability. On 7th May, residents can finally deliver their verdict.

Reform UK is committed to:
Keeping the NHS free and reducing waiting lists.
Supporting children with SEND and protecting the environment.
Protecting the triple lock for pensioners.
Reducing wasteful government spending.
Cutting energy bills and helping households keep more of what they earn.

A Call to Action

The future of our nation depends on the choices we make today. Reform UK is committed to building a stronger, smarter, and fairer society. We believe in an education system that prepares our young people for the challenges of tomorrow, in scientific advancement that drives progress and innovation, and in common sense policies that address the real needs of our citizens.

Together, we can create a future where opportunity is available to all, where innovation flourishes, and where common sense prevails. I urge you to join us in this mission. Support Reform UK and be a part of the movement to transform our nation for the better.
