Statement to voters

I've lived in Queen's Park for 23 years.

Full statement

I've brought up a daughter here, been a governor of local schools, a Queen’s Park councillor for two years and I'm passionate about our area.

Queen's Park is a great place to live. But too many families find it hard to make ends meet. I’m glad Brent’s Resident Support Fund (RSF) can help give families a lifeline when they need it. We need affordable housing, especially for young families and I’m proud that Brent’s Labour Council is building affordable homes. Brent's private landlord licensing scheme is making a real difference to tenants’ security and living standards.

We have waited far too long for Queens Park station to be made accessible. Parents are still lugging pushchairs up stairs and people with disabilities and older residents have no step free access. We’ve been pressing DfT for step free access for years and we need to keep the pressure up. We also need to work with local residents to make sure that we manage traffic to keep children safe and reduce congestion where we can.

We need a cleaner, greener, more affordable borough.

  • We’re doubling Brent water enforcement squad and hosting more community skips to keep our streets clean. We’re cracking down on fly tips and prosecuting those who blight our neighbourhoods.
  • We’ll commit at least £5 million every year to upgrade our roads and pavements.
  • We’re adding solar panels to schools and public buildings to improve sustainability and reduce costs. And we’re rolling out more trees to green our streets and improve air quality.
  • Our education maintenance allowance and school uniform grants will help relieve pressure on families.
  • Our new community safety hubs will mean you’re never more than a 20 minute walk from your local policing team.

From Kensal Green to Kensal Rise to Queen’s Park we’re making your local voices heard.

Vote for Neil, Marc and Lesley - the team you can trust - on 7th May. For a cleaner, safer, more affordable Brent.
