Statement to voters

Stuart was born in Kent, raised in Kent and educated in Kent.

Full statement

He served as an officer in the Royal Navy and later worked as a business-owner and as a journalist. Whitstable has been his home for more than 20 years. Outraged by the sewage pollution in local waters, Stuart joined the the Green Party in 2022 to support their citizen science water-testing programme. Stuart also fights against excessive luxury housing development in the area and is a supporter of the Save Brooklands Farmland campaign.

Stuart entered his first election in March 2025 and won the Canterbury City Council by-election in Whitstable Gorrell ward convincingly, with nearly 50% of the votes cast.

"I am not a career politician. I am just an an ordinary resident who is fed up with what is happening to Whitstable and Seasalter. I want to see action on sewage pollution and excessive housing development which concretes over our green spaces and fails to address local housing needs or get young people on the housing ladder. KCC deals with strategic planning, Kent's Environmental Strategy and highways, and in my view, it fails badly on all counts. We need better bus services and more action on speeding, endless roadworks and congestion. Local transport is a shambles and it needs sorting out."
