Statement to voters
My name is Michelle Keeley.
Full statement
I am standing as your Reform UK candidate for Whitwood and Altofts.
Although I’m originally from Northumberland (yes – a Geordie!), I have lived in West Yorkshire for over 22 years and in Whitwood for the past eight. This is my home.
Why I’m standing
After years of Labour control, Wakefield is in a mess. There is no respect. The NHS is broken, local opportunities have declined, costs have risen, crime and antisocial behaviour have increased, our once thriving towns are unrecognisable and council debt has soared with little accountability.
Our communities deserve better. Our communities deserve the truth!
My experience
I have worked in education, early years and care, business, and law and order. I spent 12 years with the police, most recently as an investigator in serious and complex crime within safeguarding. I have also been a voluntary advocate for those who had no voice. I have been involved in legal cases regarding negligence in the NHS and care sector, and discrimination in the workplace.
Keeping women, children and vulnerable people safe is not a slogan for me – it’s my career.
As a cancer survivor and the mother of an adult daughter who is neurodiverse, I have seen first hand how hard people struggle when public services fail them. The NHS, Police and Social care are buckling under pressure. Too many hardworking and vulnerable residents are literally having to fight for the support that they need.
That isn’t fair.
If elected, I will:
• Oppose the use of migrant hotels and HMO’s, prioritising community safety
• Protect women and girls
• Ensure there is no queue jumping for services including housing – put our residents first!
• Push for firm action on crime, shoplifting and antisocial behaviour
• Support young people with joined up local services, so they thrive in safe environments
• Champion local businesses and growth
• Be a voice for our vulnerable, elderly and veterans
• Hold the council to account for debt and waste, saving residents money.
I won’t be afraid to ruffle feathers to get results.
I will always listen, respond to emails and calls, and speak up for our community. I will scrutinise until the answers surface, and I will hold people in positions of trust - to account.
I’m not in this for personal or financial gain – I’m standing because I care deeply about where we live and where this country is heading.
Your voice. Your advocate. Your councillor.
