Statement to voters

My name is Jamie McGrevy.

Full statement

I am proud to have served both my country and my local community.

Having joined the Armed Forces at the age of 18, I was proud to serve my country.
After leaving the forces I then went on to serve local people in my role as a Police Officer.

This life experience has given me a clear understanding of what real service means and it is why I have decided to stand and represent my local community.

I believe our area has suffered from a lack of effective policing for far too long now and over time, we have seen a clear decline in crucial front line policing, policing where it really matters.

After years of neglect and proper investment by both former and current governments, this needs to change so that local people feel safe in their own communities.

Given my background, I understand the importance of strong, visible policing.

I am committed to making sure that Altofts and Whitwood are properly represented and by working alongside my Reform UK colleagues I will give residents a stronger voice.

I have witnessed the impact of current housing policies, including the use of affordable housing, local hotels, bed and breakfasts and HMOs in our area to accommodate illegal immigrants.

This situation is placing strain on local residents and this must be addressed so that those people who need it can have access to affordable housing. People deserve to have quiet enjoyment of their homes without worrying about who is living on their doorstep illegally.

As a veteran, I am particularly passionate about ensuring that those who have served our country are properly supported. Veterans should never be overlooked after serving their country.

For too long, the villages of Altofts and Whitwood have been let down by Wakefield Council. I will stand firmly for transparency, accountability and responsible use of public funds.

It’s time for change and I am committed to delivering it.
