Returning Power to Local Communities
Decisions within communities should be shaped directly by the people most affected by them. By placing authority back into local hands, communities can guide their own future, ensuring that every policy and initiative genuinely reflects the local will and priorities.
- Independent and Accountable Representation
Representation must be free from the constraints of party politics, such as the party whip. Instead, every vote should be informed and guided by the community's voice, guaranteeing that elected representatives remain true to the needs and wishes of those they serve.
- Inclusive Participation for All
True participation means everyone has an opportunity to be involved. This is achieved through citizens' assemblies, local forums, and digital tools that enable broad and meaningful engagement, giving people a real say in decisions that affect their lives.
- Transparent Local Spending
Financial decisions and budgeting should be open and transparent. Communities must have an active role in determining how budgets are set and spent, with clear visibility into where every pound goes, fostering trust and accountability in local governance.
- Stronger, Responsive Local Services
Local services ought to be tailored to meet the specific needs of each community. By listening to local voices and adapting solutions accordingly, services can be made more effective and relevant, strengthening the social fabric and everyday life.
- Direct Accountability
Accountability is vital for trust in public service. Regular reporting and the establishment of mechanisms for challenge or recall ensure that representatives and institutions remain responsive, transparent, and answerable to the communities they serve.
- Collaboration Above Party Politics
Community-driven problem-solving should take precedence over party political interests. By focusing on practical solutions through collaboration, communities can address their challenges efficiently, fostering unity and shared purpose
