Statement to voters

“I’m a recently retired primary school teacher and have lived and worked in Huntingdonshire since 2011.

Full statement

I’ve had a passion for animals since childhood and am a firm believer in the benefits of whole food plant-based diets for people, planet and animals. In my free time, I love taking care of my three grandchildren, walking with my rescued German Shepherd and relaxing in the garden with my six rescued chickens. If elected, I’ll strive to be a strong voice for all who call this beautiful area home - humans and animals alike.

If elected on 7th May, my priorities include:

Ensuring council support for a swift transition to animal-free science (Herbie’s Law) thereby releasing the district from being associated with outdated animal testing, as highlighted by Camp Beagle’s five year long permanent presence in the ward

Protecting local wildlife habitats and river meadows

Tree planting to protect against and mediate risks of projected flooding in the region. (Climate Central’s 2030 Flood Map shows an area projected to be below annual flood level from The Wash to Fen Drayton Lakes)

Initiating a council ‘Eco Hub’ to promote and advise on sustainable living

Improving cycle routes and footpaths, to ensure year-round usability

Mandating wildlife tunnels or native hedging for all boundaries in new planning applications

Ensuring the River Great Ouse is healthy and pollution-free, via a local Charter to protect its rights

Preparing our children to live sustainable lifestyles, including support for schools to promote plant-based options and cookery lessons

Advocating for plant-based food and drink options to be served in public settings, including council-catered events

Opposing new planning applications for intensive farming or related processing in the area."
