Statement to voters
I'm proud to be standing for election on 7th May.
Full statement
I'm hoping for your vote so I can start to get things done for our community.
I've lived in Suffolk for nearly 10 years - it's a beautiful county I've come to love. I care deeply about its precious environments and habitats - I am a trustee of the Lavenham Woodland Project. I also volunteer with the Sutton Hoo Ship Company and row with Woodbridge Coastal rowing Club. I am widowed, with three grown-up children and five grandchildren. I am a Quaker.
I have the skills for the job - and the track record to prove it. Before retiring, I spent over 30 years in public service with the Health and Safety Executive, helping to make our lives safer and healthier. That included working with local councils to make sure things got done. I'm a graduate of Cambridge University, with a postgraduate degree in environmental planning.
Here are some of the things I want to get done:
- Fix our roads - as a motorist, I keep asking why are our roads so bad?
- Affordable housing - I remember the struggle to get on the housing ladder, and I want young people to have access to proper affordable homes.
- Rural buses - I have a bus pass, but where are the buses to go with it?
- Our waterways - as an angler and a rower, I want our rivers and streams properly cared for for future generations
- More woodland - as a custodian of a local wood, I know how beneficial it is for wildlife and for our wellbeing.
This is my first step into politics. I'm standing because I believe we urgently need hope - not more despair and division. We need a fresh start, and the Green Party can deliver that.
