Statement to voters

I've lived in Salford all my life.

Full statement

I grew up in Weaste until I was 11 years old and my mum and dad's house was demolished as part of a compulsory purchase scheme. At which point we moved into Swinton.

I started my working career as a papergirl and went onto a Saturday and after-school job in retail on the once vibrant Swinton Shopping centre and commenced on YTS (Youth Training Scheme - £27.50 a week in 1985 equivalent of an apprenticeship in today's world) when I left High School.

Throughout my career I progressed into management positions prior to having my children.

I am a mother of 2 boys, one aged 19 and the other is 16 years old.

After the birth of my youngest child, I undertook a law degree as a mature student, whilst cleaning for a living, often studying well into the early hours of the morning.

I co-own a small craft ale bar in Swinton which is very much community focussed. We have a walking club, book club and football club and raise much needed funds for various charities as a team.

I believe that the labour party have become complacent and consider Salford a safe place to hide.

The council have wasted far too much of our council tax money on the Salford sports stadium, whilst ignoring the real issues faced by local residents.

Fly tipping, roads are riddled with pot holes which often results in costly repairs for motorists whilst the council insists it is resurfacing roads and highways. Unacceptable waiting lists for social housings, HMOs in abundance and general apathy.

I am standing to support change in our local community. A change that makes your voice heard, that makes your opinions matter and more importantly makes your lives better.
