Statement to voters

I have recently moved into Wallsend North, in order to be closer to my family.

Full statement

It has not taken me long to feel at home and totally committed to my new community.
I have a deep desire to contribute to the well-being of Wallsend and being involved in the Green Party is an important way of demonstrating this.
I believe wholeheartedly that local citizens should have a real say in what happens in their neighbourhood because they know it best. In representing Wallsend North, I would make sure that I listen thoughtfully and meaningfully to the voices of local people, in order to represent them on North Tyneside council.
I have worked for 40+ years in local authority children's services, a national children's charity and as an independent trainer. Prior to this, I was a nurse in the NHS.
The reason I am an active member of the Green Party is that I believe in its values of social and environmental justice, as it works hard to improve the everyday quality of life of ordinary people - not just the privileged few. I already know that it often takes courage to speak up for these values, particularly when confronted by messages of hate, division and cynicism in the wider political arena.
But I don't let this put me off. On the contrary, it makes me more determined to reach out to my local community with warmth and a genuine interest in the stories and lived experience of people living in Wallsend North.
It can only be a good thing for North Tyneside council to have new voices with positive messages of hope and optimism, and constructive challenge, woven into its decision making for local communities, including Wallsend North.
I am determined that I would be such a voice, on behalf of my community.
