Statement to voters
I’m standing as a Green Party candidate because I believe politics should feel that they represent and speak for the needs of everyday people.
Full statement
Politics should be for all of us.
Connection and community sit at the heart of what matters to me. Feeling part of something, feeling supported, knowing someone is listening. These things really shape our wellbeing.
Through my work supporting people with their mental health, I see how much the pressures around us affect how we feel. The cost of living, worries about housing, isolation and safety, a sense of not being heard can really impact our wellbeing.
I want to help to build our community as a place where people feel seen earlier, supported sooner, and not left to cope on their own.
Living in a coastal area like ours brings so much to be proud of.
At the same time, there are real pressures. Housing becoming less affordable for local people. Seasonal increases in visitors bringing challenges as well as benefits. Older residents feeling more isolated. Young people needing more spaces to go and a stronger sense of belonging.
These are the things I want to focus on.
Supporting homes that local people can afford.
A focus on practical, local solutions to energy and cost of living. This includes supporting renewable energy, improving energy efficiency in homes, and helping reduce bills while moving towards a more sustainable future.
Improving the re-cycling rates at NT council by utilising a reduced incineration policy.
Working with others locally to improve access to community mental health support and early help.
Strengthening support for children and young people, including prioritising SEND provision.
Making sure older residents feel connected and supported, not overlooked.
Protecting the green spaces and coastline that matter so much to people here.
Backing local businesses and helping keep our community strong and connected.
Supporting a balanced, preventative approach to community safety.I also believe people deserve openness about how decisions are made and how public money is used, and that these decisions should reflect fairness, ethical integrity and responsibility.
I’m not a career politician. Standing as a council candidate is not something I ever envisioned. However, politics that divides, excludes, and privileges some while harming others is a real concern I feel I need to speak to.
I will focus on what we can improve locally, while standing up for the wider changes we need.
I’m standing to bring people together, not to divide, and to help build a community where people feel more connected, more supported and more hopeful.
Views my own.
