Hi, I’m Josh Thomas, and alongside Jamie Tulacz, I’m running to be one of Mottingham’s Green Party councillors.

I’m a 22-year-old student of History, Philosophy and Politics at Lancaster University, and I previously studied abroad at the University of Toronto. Outside of my studies, I’ve been a lifelong resident of the London Borough of Bromley. I grew up just a short bus ride from Mottingham on the 273, and the area has always felt like part of my local community.

Growing up locally means I’m acutely aware of the issues facing Mottingham, and Bromley more widely, that have been left unaddressed for far too long by the establishment parties. Speed limits in our neighbourhoods remain dangerously high, our high streets are deteriorating, and low-level crime often goes unaddressed. At the heart of this is a failure to invest in our communities.

As Mottingham’s Green Party representative, I will work tirelessly to address these concerns. A core principle of the Green Party is protecting our environment and green spaces. As co-founder of Bromley and Sevenoaks Greenpeace, I understand the importance of holding polluters accountable and protecting local areas like Marvels Wood from fly-tipping, dog-fouling, and neglect.

But our priorities go beyond the environment. There can be no climate justice without social and economic justice. Jamie and I will push for affordable, sustainably developed housing, action to reduce rising homelessness, and stronger support for disability, mental health and addiction services - borough wide. We will also continue pressing for greater funding for local government, so our communities receive the support they deserve.
