Statement to voters

I'm John Cook I'm 63 live in Saxlingham Nethergate and have lived in South Norfolk all my life.

Full statement

I'm an electrician with 4 Cats, a wife and a daughter. I love Norfolk.

I have been an Independent Councillor for three years at South Norfolk District Council for Newton Flotman ward. I have enjoyed attending parish council meetings (at Newton Flotman, Shotesham, Saxlingham and Swainsthorpe), I listen to the parish councillors and residents and help them if I can to make their villiages a better place for them to live in and for all who live there to enjoy. This is what local politics is all about - not following party policies, sometimes with a national agenda.
In the current campaign, I realise many people are concerned by The Proposed East Pye Solar Farms, stretching the breadth of South Norfolk, I too am angered by these proposals which will destroy our beautiful unique landscape and have a devasting effect on our best and most versatile farm land and the vast array of wildlife it supports, whilst this is a matter that will be decided nationally. I fully support 'Block East Pye Solar,' and will continue to do so, we all have to do our upmost to put a stop to this destruction. I have lobbied our MP and the leader of South Norfolk Council
and The Head of Planning asking them to stand up against this outrage.
Lets all carry on fighting and never, never give up.

The issues that stand out to me in South Norfolk and most common queries i receive
revolve around:

  1. Speed limits and lack of calming measures in villages.
  2. inadequate mobile phone signal throughout Norfolk.
  3. Litter all around us and fly tipping.
  4. Pot Holes
Personally the amount of times I call Norfolk County Council, eventually get through, and am given a reference number which leads to no action or further correspondence its quite simply woeful.
  5. Adult social care
I have witnessed first hand with my late father the inadequate help available to families who struggle to give the care to their loved ones , the support offered by the system in place was dreadful. We really shouldn't be paying agencies who pay their staff poorly for care workers turning up late offering little or no no social interaction with a sick, vulnerable, elderly people.
All of these issues need addressing.
I am a local man i like many of you am sick to death of politics, I'm standing in this election as an Independent for this reason.
I have already made a difference locally at SNDC at district level, and know i can make a difference at County Level
My Pledge to you all is to put Norfolk and its people First
A vote for me is a vote for you
more importantly it's a vote for your community.
0N MAY 7th VOTE INDEPENDENT VOTE JOHN COOK!
