Statement to voters

Hello, my name is Marie and I am standing in this election because I care deeply about this community’s future.

Full statement

I live in Great Ellingham and I understand the challenges we face, from access to services and transport to wellbeing, and the pressures on farming, the environment and the local economy. I believe looking after our countryside and supporting the rural economy go hand in hand, creating vibrant and sustainable rural communities.

I am passionate about community, nature regeneration, enterprise, creativity and heritage. I will bring a practical, forward-looking approach to the challenges we face. If elected, I will focus on improvements that make everyday life better. This includes rural transport, support for local businesses and young people, and protecting our environment and wildlife while helping to build strong, connected communities.

My professional background is in higher education, including work at Norwich University of the Arts. I have also worked internationally across the arts and creative industries and advised the British Council’s Arts and Creative Economy team. Earlier in my career, my husband and I ran an award-winning shoemaking business in rural Ireland, so I understand the realities of running a small rural enterprise.

I have spent many years involved in wildlife care and environmental initiatives, including reducing our reliance on plastics.

Even where we may not always agree, I believe in respectful dialogue and practical solutions. If elected, I will listen carefully, understand local concerns, and speak up for Yare and Necton with honesty, fairness and integrity.

For more detailed information, please read on!

My priorities are practical and local: 1. improving transport and addressing the condition of our roads and particularly potholes so that people can travel safely and stay connected, especially in the rural communities of Yare and Necton.

  1. I care deeply about community wellbeing, including supporting young people and helping to create a positive, inclusive and vibrant environment where people feel part of their community and creating great places to live and work.

  2. I will bring a stronger attention to protecting our natural surroundings, including ensuring that wildlife crime is properly addressed.

A bit more about me:
Alongside my local commitment, I bring a professional background in education, culture and sustainable practice. I have written on design and eco-anxiety, and hold a certificate in Sustainable Strategies and the Circular Economy from the Cambridge Judge Business School. My work has always focused on people, supporting inclusive communities, encouraging creativity, and helping different perspectives to be heard. I believe local decisions should be thoughtful, practical and rooted in the needs of the whole community.
