Statement to voters
My name is Danny Allsebrook and I want to tell you about myself and why I want to be your councillor in Woodhouse and Handsworth.
Full statement
My wife is Woodhouse born and bred. We live in a council house in Shiregreen now, but my father-in-law still lives on Coisley Hill and my uncle on Handsworth Rd we have family on the badger estate and friends who live in handsworth. Improving facilities in the ward matters to me personally.
Being a council tenant, I understand how frustrating it can be to get things done, and that’s also a big part of why I decided to have a go as a councillor myself. I want good quality services for me, my family and for our communities. I know anti-social behaviour can be a blight and why people often don’t report it, because they are afraid of reprisals or because they’ve found reporting doesn’t change anything. I decided I can’t just complain about what’s wrong, I’d better get stuck in to help sort things out.
I am passionate about green space and public parks. I have ten years experience volunteering with the Friends of Wincobank Hill. I have saved historic woodland from development and organised special events, like our annual lantern parade, which people really enjoy.
I stand for transparency, commitment and community. It’s not just a slogan, it’s a promise.
Transparency – in my experience, people have lost a lot of trust in politicians and feel they are not being properly informed. I will always try to deliver what you want, but if this is not possible you will get an honest and transparent explanation.
Commitment – I will hold regular surgeries and be a visible presence in the community, so you get to know me and feel you can ask me for a hand if you need one.
Community – I know people sometimes feel we have lost a sense of community. I will use my experience to help our community groups, listening and supporting wherever I can, including with getting funding.
If you have seen my show at Woodhouse Library you will know I’m also an amateur magician. I love entertaining children and families. It’s a lot of fun, and another way to bring everyone together.
For me, a community where people help each other out and enjoy themselves together is a beacon of light in a divided world.
