Statement to voters

My name is Merv Boniface and I have lived in Wokingham for my whole working life.

Full statement

I graduated from Reading University and have my three degrees from there. I live in Twyford and have done so for the past 38 years. I was a local councillor for eight years until 2019. I entered the teaching profession and have always worked in Wokingham schools. The last of these was from 1990 to 2010 when I was appointed Deputy Headteacher at The Bulmershe School in Woodley.
I joined the Green Party in 2020 and have never looked back following that decision. I have always been passionate about Green issues from river and waterway purity, plastic in our seas to energy conservation, animal protection and climate change amongst many others. In fact, I have never felt so at home with Green policies which have come to mean so much to us all.
I am Chair of Wokingham Green Party and we are making huge strides towards our target of a number of Green councillors at the Borough Council following 7th May 2026 Local Elections. Hopefully this will happen for Twyford, Ruscombe and Hurst Ward residents. I have stood as a Green candidate on many occasions but now is the time.
As part of this it is very important that the Green Party hold their own in Parliamentary elections. I was selected by Green Party members to represent you at the July 2024 General Election. I stood to represent you all on the issues that impact on us directly and have profound consequences for our children and future generations.

The Green Party is a fast rising political force that is clear and precise in its intentions and ambitions. We aim to tackle the climate crisis head on, do all we can to improve the environment and ensure social justice for all. We believe in fairness in the provision of public services, conservation of everything around us and financially a chance for everyone to have a comfortable life.

We are the Party for the future and reach out to all generations. Our Wokingham membership has quadrupled in the past six months. Our meetings are exciting and inspiring. Vote for us and join as a member to set out a new way and overturn the outdated and unpopular two party system.
