Statement to voters
It would be a privilege to represent the good people of Epsom West ward on the new East Surrey Council.
Full statement
I know the area quite well as I have lived in Epsom for 24 years and campaigned all over the borough. We'll need to speak up for ourselves and our issues; this is not a time to be faint-hearted.
As an active retired nurse my priorities are the things that the County Council is responsible for which affect people's daily lives: social care, education, highways, trading standards, transport, recreation etc. I volunteer at our local park to keep it tidy and welcoming and would strive to keep our local green areas as respite and safety from our busy lives.
My children went to state schools and have done well; school is a massive part of a child's life; teaching staff deserve every support and credit. Children get one shot at childhood and that needs to be a positive experience to set them on the road as responsible adults.
Comprehensive social care is still an aspiration, but getting the best value for money, rather than the cheapest option should be the role of the Council, and supporting carers properly is common sense.
