Statement to voters
I’m Cllr Clive Harriss, the conservative candidate, I’ve 25 years experience as a councillor 20 years in Buckinghamshire at Parish, District, County and now unitary levels.
Full statement
I represented the old Bernwood Ward from 2017 to 2021 elected with 48% of the vote.
I’ve been a cabinet member in each administration, representing Waste & the environment, Licencing & Transport with 20 years on the planning committee.
I was the cycling Tsar for the Aylesbury Garden town and the wands that separate the traffic in Aylesbury from the cycle paths were me and the trial installation in Haddenham, which the Parish Council declined long term due to the design.
Currently, I’m Cabinet member for Culture and Leisure with responsibility for the arts, theatres, sports facilities, country and urban parks and play grounds. My department has achieved 6 Green Flags for excellence for our parks which I believe has increased to 7 this year.
As County Councillor I had a new culvert constructed in Church Way Haddenham due to flooding from the Red Row site, working with Long Crendon Parish Council I had a new water storage tank added to the drainage system to stop flooding from run off from the school playing fields in Chilton Road which then came out of the drains in Friars Furlong and ran down flooding the houses in Meadow Bank Close, Long Crendon.
In Chearsley working with the Parish Council, I had the road from Cuddington resurfaced and the drains repaired.
More recently I’ve been in discussions regarding the medical centre in Long Crendon, the Thame to Haddenham greenway while trying to find homes for two of Aylesbury’s football clubs.
Personally, I’m father to three girls, one finishing a masters in civil engineering, the other completed A Levels and the youngest 12 years old still at school. I’m therefore a believer in girl power work hard to promote women’s sport and coach junior women’s rugby.
I’m a keen cyclist and cherish the Waddesdon Greenway and the Phoenix Trail but the Haddenham Greenway still faulters due to Oxfordshire Council although finally a meeting has been agreed between the very pro-active Conservative MP Greg Smith.
I have experience and a reputation for getting things done. I maintain my contact with local people in order to ensure I stay aware of any growing issues
Planning
my most recent success persuading the committee to turn down the Kimblewick solar farm due to the impact on the residents and views from Coombe Hill and the numerous rights of way which it crossed.
I’m against the Bio digester, due to size and impact on the roads due to the increase in traffic and location.
I believe in keeping protecting our countryside strong schools, good quality services and low council tax.
