Martin Papworth Liberal Democrat Candidate, Warminster Broadway

I’ve lived in Warminster Broadway since 1996 when I moved here to be close to my work.
My children went to Sambourne and Kingdown schools, I’m a member of Christ Church and am a keen allotment holder at Bradley Road.
I worked for the National Trust as a historic environment conservation advisor, based first at Bishopstrow and subsequently at Tisbury. I have worked with a range of organisations to improve the local environment, most recently with the Cranborne Chase National Landscape team.
I am keen to work with my fellow councillors to enable members of the Warminster Broadway community to improve their opportunities and quality of life.
My greatest concern is the level of housing development taking place around the town without balancing this by improving infrastructure. The expanding town places the Avenue Surgery increasingly under pressure. It is currently the only town GP practice and consequently it is hard to obtain an appointment which deters some from getting the help they need. The medical service needs significant new investment to encourage a second practice to be set up in the town. Also Kingdown as the only state secondary school also requires local political pressure to enable it to improve its facilities as new potential students move into new homes. A significantly expanding town needs to be balanced with social investment in the community including obtaining grants for business, social care and in youth work for young and old to flourish.
My willingness to serve my local community is clear as this is the third time I have put myself forward as a councillor for election.
