Ruth Brown is a local District Councillor for Royston Heath and was Deputy Leader of North Hertfordshire Council and Cabinet Member for Planning & Transport until May 2024.

Ruth has lived in Royston since 1988 and has a strong track record as a hard-working local community champion. She has spent her working life largely in the charity sector, in adult education and volunteer management, most recently as a freelance trainer specialising in mental health related topics. She has been a community leader in roles such as school governor, church pastor and local town and district councillor.
Ruth has experience of listening to and delivering on the issues which matter most to residents. Ruth is a strong advocate for environmental issues and an accredited Green Liberal Democrat candidate. She has promoted active travel, sustainable development, reducing waste, increasing recycling, high quality green spaces and addressing the climate, biodiversity and ecological emergency.
Ruth cares passionately about the needs of the most vulnerable in society and is committed to widening access to education and employment, building affordable homes and expanding community-based health and social care services. She has supported the voluntary sector to reduce inequality and worked in partnership to promote local business.
Ruth’s top 3 priorities for a Faur Deal for Hertfordshire are: Fixing the roads and buses, better children's services and improving the environment.
