Full statement
The fight to stop the destruction of Whyburn Farm is the fight for Hucknall’s future — and I will never surrender it to developers. This isn’t just about planning — it’s about protecting who we are.
Residents are clear: they don’t want our green belt ripped up for thousands of houses. And neither do I. This land is precious — once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.
The same goes for the land off Common Lane near Misk Hills. The Council’s already rejected these reckless plans once — and we’ll do it again, no matter how much pressure comes from the Labour Government in Westminster.
3,000 houses at Whyburn Farm would cause chaos: gridlocked roads, overstretched schools and surgeries, and the permanent loss of the green lungs of our town. It’s short-term profit at long-term cost.
Ashfield Independents have a proud record of standing up for Hucknall — and we’ve taken on both Conservative and Labour governments to protect our green spaces. Thanks to us, the Local Plan now protects Whyburn Farm and Misk Hills. This isn’t just talk — it’s action that’s delivered results.
But this fight is far from over. To stop these developments for good, we need your support at the ballot box. Ashfield Independent councillors don’t just talk tough — we act. Our record is clear. We work relentlessly for Hucknall — and we always will.
While the Tories control the County Council, Hucknall is under siege. Their vanity project — Oak House at Top Wighay Farm — is a disgrace. It’s not just a wasteful £26.5 million office block — it’s a trojan horse unlocking land for over 2,000 houses. This is how the Conservatives treat Hucknall.
This election matters. It’s about protecting our town from being swallowed by overdevelopment. Only by voting Ashfield Independent can we keep fighting and winning for Hucknall.
But housing isn’t the only issue. The Labour Government has disgracefully scrapped over £9 million of investment that would have transformed our town. They talk about levelling up — but when Hucknall needed help, they pulled the plug.
Ashfield Independents are fighting back. We’re in advanced talks to bring a Super Health Centre to the former sixth form college site on Portland Road. We’ll buy it. We’ll hand it to the NHS. And we’ll finally bring more GPs and NHS dentists to Hucknall — where they’re so desperately needed.
We’ve already delivered. Over £5 million invested in Hucknall Leisure Centre, including a brand-new training pool. When Labour ran the council, our leisure centre was losing over £120,000 a year — all thanks to a leaking water tank they ignored.
We’ve transformed Titchfield Park and secured a brand-new PlayZone in partnership with the Football Association. This is about building a healthier, happier Hucknall — and making sure families have first-class facilities, right here at home.
This is our town. Our future. Our fight.
Elect Ashfield Independents — and let’s keep Hucknall green, strong, and in safe hands. Say no to Whyburn Farm. Say yes to a future that works for us all.
