Statement to voters

The Green Party candidate in Rugby on July 4th is Becca Stevenson.

Full statement

She manages 5 Acre Farm, a local community supported farm located near Ryton on Dunsmore whilst also being a director and regional organizer for the Land Workers Alliance, a union supporting agroecological farmers. Becca spends her spare time as a volunteer for Transition Town Rugby and set up Rugby Litter Busters three years ago.

Becca’s campaign foregrounds a fresh, hopeful approach in our politics. In practice that means improving the lives of residents through real investment in the NHS and social care systems on which so many of us rely. Likewise, we need to provide far more affordable and social housing, helping young people in particular to gain their independence. It is also vital that together with tackling further climate change, we counter the effects already with us such as the repeated flooding in the Borough.

Becca commented: “I am excited and honoured to be the Green Party candidate for Rugby in this General Election. I have used my experience in environmental activism and business to forge excellent links with a wide range of groups and I am committed to engaging as many people as possible. I want to be another Green voice in parliament representing real hope and real change for the people of Rugby. “

It looks highly likely that there will be a Labour government after July 4th. In that case, as a Green MP Becca will work to ensure that Labour are ambitious in their aims and don’t simply tweak the current broken system. She will be an effective and principled MP who works to strengthen Rugby’s local economy and protect its natural environment.
