Statement to voters

Liz Townsend is standing for election to the new West Surrey Council in May 2026 to continue delivering for Cranleigh and Ewhurst.

Full statement

A well-known local representative, Liz has worked year-round to support residents and get results on the issues that matter most. She has helped families with children with additional needs, including setting up a local support group, and has held Thames Water to account over leaks and sewage dumping affecting the area.

She has also delivered a range of practical local improvements, including upgrading Lashmere Play Park, resurfacing Barhatch Lane and other rural roads, installing new bus shelters, and introducing traffic calming measures on Elmbridge Road, alongside new vehicle-activated speed signs on Horsham Road and Ewhurst Road in Cranleigh and Cranleigh Road in Ewhurst.

Liz has led major local investment projects, including the new energy-efficient leisure centre and skatepark, helping to improve facilities for residents of all ages.
Through her work across all levels of local government, Liz has ensured that Cranleigh and Ewhurst secure more of the funding and support they need.

At Waverley Borough Council, she has led key strategies to support local businesses and strengthen environmental action. This includes reducing pesticide use and introducing stronger sustainability standards for council housing.

If elected to West Surrey Council, Liz will focus on improving access to local health and community services, including building on initiatives such as the Hospital Hoppa service she helped establish, tackling traffic and infrastructure pressures in Cranleigh and Ewhurst, supporting families of children with additional needs, and securing more support for carers. She will also continue to hold water companies to account while investing in greener, more sustainable local facilities.
