Statement to voters
I am standing for the West Surrey ward of Waverley Eastern Villages because I believe in politics working for the local community and I want to play my part in making that happen.
Full statement
I have been a Bramley resident since 2004 and this community matters deeply to me. My working life has taken me from teaching English in Spain to twenty years in the NHS where I served as a Union representative, then into IT management and later into nature conservation. I am a regular volunteer with a variety of local charities and when I am not doing that you will find me playing the ukulele.
That background in conservation means the state of our natural environment is something I feel very strongly about. Native species are in decline, our waterways are being polluted and biodiversity is falling. The River Wey has seen sewage dumps nearly one hundred times lasting over one thousand hours. That is unacceptable and water companies must be held to account.
What I will work towards
If elected I will:
- Push to hold water companies and sewage works to account for the pollution of our rivers and waterways
- Work to deliver more social housing with sustainable features and developments that genuinely work for the communities they are built in
- Make sure consultations with local people are properly heard and that developers stick to their agreements
- Draw on my NHS and union experience to ensure our community gets the public services it deserves
I am proud to call Bramley home and I will work hard to protect everything that makes it so unique.
