Statement to voters

Cllr Wazma Qais, elected in 2019 and serving as a councillor for Silhill since then, is widely recognised for her consistent work on behalf of residents and her focus on local priorities.

Full statement

She has contributed to a range of improvements across Silhill, including challenging unsuitable planning applications, enhancing the Hermitage playground, supporting the repainting of the Streetsbrook Road bridge, and helping to secure the return of the Minor Injuries Unit to Solihull Hospital. She has also responded quickly to issues raised by residents, such as speeding concerns, parking problems, potholes, damaged pavements, and missed refuse collections.

As a strong voice for the community, she places residents’ concerns at the centre of her work. She is known for listening carefully, taking action promptly, and ensuring that local issues are addressed with attention to detail.

She has led local efforts to keep Silhill clean, founding the area’s first litter‑picking group and working to maintain streets free from litter and graffiti. Her commitment to community safety includes ongoing involvement in the campaign to retain Solihull Police Station.
