Statement to voters

I have absolutely loved serving as the District Councillor for Warboys Ward over the past four years.

Full statement

It has been a privilege to represent our villages, support residents and stand up for the issues that matter most. As Huntingdonshire District Council prepares for the transition to a Unitary Authority in the coming years, I hope to continue representing you and making sure our communities are heard.

Becoming a District Councillor wasn’t something I had planned. Someone asked me if I’d consider it and I thought, “Why not?” I’ve always been driven by a genuine desire to help people - and this role has allowed me to do exactly that. Whether supporting flood‑hit communities, backing the new Warboys Community Centre, or pushing for better roads, transport and planning decisions, I’ve worked hard to make sure local people see real, practical benefits.

My passion for our community is what keeps me going. I want our villages to have the investment, services and representation they deserve. For the past four years, Conservative Councillors have been in opposition, holding the Joint Administration to account - including Calling‑In the Green Bin Subscription Service (or as many residents call it, the Green Bin Tax). We raised concerns early on, especially with food waste collections on the horizon, but those concerns were not listened to.

Pidley has been my home for 15 years and I’ve dedicated myself to our community in every way I can. I’ve served as a Trustee for Pidley Mountain Rescue, Chairman of Pidley‑cum‑Fenton Parish Council and a Trustee for the Community Centre. Every role has strengthened my belief that local people deserve strong, practical, hands‑on representation.

I will always fight for what is right and do everything I can to make a positive difference in people’s lives.

I understand the frustrations many feel with national politics. District Councillors are different - we live in the communities we represent, we listen and we work hard for our neighbours. Many residents also follow the updates from our MP, Ben Obese‑Jecty, whose weekly videos highlight local issues being raised in Parliament. His energy and commitment to the constituency are often noted by people in the area.

Not so long ago, Suffragettes risked everything to secure the right to vote - some even paying the ultimate price. Imagine if we could honour that legacy by increasing turnout far beyond the usual 31%. We could make history with one of the highest local election turnouts in England. Even spoiling a ballot is still a democratic act; it shows your voice matters.

District elections are about choosing who you believe will work hard for you, your family and your community. This is grassroots democracy - delivering services, improving roads and footpaths, supporting our farmers and strengthening flood‑resilience measures.

I look forward to meeting more of you, listening to your concerns, and working together to make our area an even better place to live.

Together, we can build a stronger future for our community.
